IB Mathematics Exam Credit for Math Placement

Students who score a 5 or higher on the International Baccalaureate (IB) Mathematics Higher Level exam receive credit for a MAT 127 – Calculus A.

A student’s own perception of strength in mathematics is an important factor when advising students about math placement. For example, students who receive IB credit for Calculus sometimes choose to forgo the credit and retake the class at TCNJ because of the faster pace and increased rigor of TCNJ courses. Others choose to accept the IB credit and do very well. This is a personal decision that can be discussed with an academic advisor. Students will receive notification from the Office of Records and Registration regarding the process for declining IB credit if they wish to retake MAT 127 or MAT 125.
